I'm not familiar with Bel Ray other than I understand it is an aluminum based grease, which kind of worries me being used on smaller delicate parts such as in reels.

Never tried the mineral spirits as I usually have always had some coleman fuel lying around.

If you really want to do the job right, get yourself some coleman fuel and some Quantum Hot Sauce (both grease and oil). That would be my recommendation.

So I've been reading the spinning reel maint guide and I'm taking my reel apart and getting ready to clean it up. I have honestly never done this before so I'm wondering if I could use alternative products...

- Mineral Spirits in place of white gas/coleman fuel?
- Bel Ray waterproof grease for all internal gears, etc.?

Go to the home page, click on Daiwa Schematics, then click on Black Gold, then you will see the schematic listed for the BG15.

I looked but did not see anything for the BG (Black Gold) series reels. Are they under another name?
