While fishing with his dad on Alabama's Smith Lake, fifteen-year-old Philip Terry Jr. knew the 8-pound 15-ounce bass was a trophy fish. Terry put the fish in the freezer and spent months saving up for a wall mount of his catch. Curious about the exact species the bass he had caught, Terry brought it to a researcher at the University of Auburn, who confirmed the fish to be a spotted bass. Terry's trophy fish immediately became a world record. One year later, he was presented with his world record certificate!
