Today I got a chance to try out the Jackall Mack VIB70 Lure from ExtremeLures.com. Unlike other soft body flexible bait, with one feel you can tell this is one tough bait which will handle some hard action. I was fishing a local lake where bass fishing pressure can be high at times and to me some of the best areas are accessible better by shore. So I decided to leave the boat at home today and head out to try this new bait in some of my favorite spots.

The weather was a nice cool 80 degrees which for this time of year is great for Southern California. I was a bit worried when I first arrived at the lake to find the water had risen by about 4 feet, which would mean the bass could be pushed far up into the tules. I noticed hundreds of baby bass and this lake is also known for its large populations of threadfin shad, both are a favorite meal of Large Mouth Bass in Lake Skinner because the name of the game is survival, and if a bass has to eat another bass to live, it will not even hesitate.ExtremeLures.com Jackall Mask VIB70

One of the particular reasons that I selected the shad colored Jackall Mask VIB70 is because the abundance of thredfin shad in this lake. You should always match the baits that you will be using at a particular lake based on the natural feeding sources of the Large Mouth Bass in that area.

The Jackall Mask VIB70 is a lipless crank bait that runs about 4-5 feet in depth and has a special Titanium Nickel alloy wire connecting the rear treble hooks aiding in its flexibilty and lifelike swimming motion. From the first cast I knew this was going to be a winner, the castibilty is superb, you can feel the unique vibration the lure is sending out into the water being transmitted into your rod, its like it is calling out to the lunker large mouths everywhere.

I matched the Jackall Mask VIB70 with a Team Daiwa Sol Reel, Gloomis GL2 rod and Yo-Zuri 10LB clear line. The weed line was at about 6 feet since the water had risen which was perfect with the lure runnning at 4-5 feet keeping the lure in the target zone for the maximum amount of time.

On the third cast I hooked the first largemouth bass, 2.2LB and a great fight. The fish were hungry and I had the perfect shad lure for them! Fifth cast and I was hooked up again, this time a 1.9LB largemouth. I was having a great time already but I wanted to get my hands on some of the bigger size largemouth that I have seen around the lake on a regular basis. The fish seemed to be tight to the tules, awaiting to amush any unsuspecting prey that came along. After a few more casts, I decided to run the lure right along side the tules, and with the action and control you have with this lure it makes it a breeze. Suddenly I saw a wake and some tules being bumped aside. He slammede bait with a vengence, this bass was hungry and he definately has shad on his mind. Final weight was 5.4LBs, great for a first day out using the Jackall Mask VIB70.

This is definately one bait that should be in every anglers box, and it will certainly be in my top 10 baits to carry on the water with me. You can obtain the Jackall Mask VIB70 at ExtremeLures.com
