If your reel feels “lumpy” or the spool is sticking, reference the schematic to check the orientation of the transfer gear.. If these gears are out of “time” by even one tooth, the reel will bind..

  2. The Anti-Reverse Dog Spring: One of the most common parts to “fly across the room” during disassembly is the tiny anti-reverse dog spring.. Use the high-resolution exploded view to see exactly how this spring seats against the housing—without it, your reel will back-reel uncontrollably..

  3. Shim Placement: Vintage Mitchells rely on thin brass shims to maintain the gap between the pinion and the main gear.. Over decades, these shims can wear down or be lost. The schematic will show you the “stack” order; adding a 0.1mm shim can often take a “noisy” vintage reel and make it whisper-quiet again..
